Dan Stover Memorial Music Contest & Scholarship

The Dan Stover Memorial Music Contest & Scholarship is an annual Rotary program that recognizes and supports musically talented high school students. Named in honor of Dan Stover — an educator, musician, and dedicated Rotarian — this contest celebrates musical excellence and helps students pursue further education in music and the performing arts.

The Rotary Club of Apple Valley proudly participates in this program by sponsoring student musicians at the club level, with winners advancing to higher levels of competition within Rotary District 5300.

Who Should Apply?

Students should meet the following criteria to participate at the club level:

  • Currently enrolled in high school
  • Demonstrate strong musical ability
  • Perform on a musical instrument or voice
  • Plan to continue education at an accredited college, university, or music conservatory
  • Have experience performing as a soloist or in an ensemble

How the Contest Works

The Dan Stover Music Contest is conducted in multiple levels:

  1. Club Level
Students apply and perform through their local Rotary club (Rotary Club of Apple Valley).

  2. Regional Level
Club-level winners advance to regional competitions.

  3. District Final
Regional winners perform at the Rotary District 5300 final event, often held in conjunction with District Assembly.

Scholarships and cash awards are presented at each level, with larger awards available at the district level.
